Southern Illinois Healthcare Southern Illinois Healthcare is offering an 8 week summer internship opportunity for students interested in Laboratory, Nursing, Radiology, Respiratory Therapy, Physical or Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy or other approved career fields. Students entering their Junior and Senior year and graduating Seniors are eligible to apply. Deadline to apply is May 1, 2012 Southern Illinois Healthcare is also offering a 6 week Career Development Class, which will provide direct insight into your personal and professional goals. Through career coaching, you will learn to develop greater confidence in your skills and abilities and learn how to apply your talents in the workplace. This class will provide you with educational and professional resources, professional and personal development, information on different careers and the career transitioning process and 3 weeks of job shadowing. Classes for 2012 will begin in September and will last 4 hours per week for 6 weeks. Classes will be held at the Corporate Office in Carbondale Mall, 2 timers per week, from 7AM - 9aM. Seniors If you plan to attend RLC next year, you can apply for the RLC Foundation Scholarship which is a common application for most all scholarships available at RLC. Apply online at www.rlc.edu/foundation. Deadline to apply is February 29. Also on the website is a link to other scholarship opportunities as well at RLC.
Murray State University Murray State University is announcing its summer Commonwealth Honors Academy. It will be held June 9 throu June 30, 2012. In order to qualify students must have: Completed the junior year of high school ACT of 25 and a 4.5 GPA Demonstrate community involvement, have high class rank, and teacher recommendations Students receive: 6 hours of college credit Can take 6 additional hours of tuition free classes Be awarded a four-year $2,000 per year housing scholarship to Murray State University Deadline to apply is March 1, 2012 Apply online at: www.murraystate.edu/cha
Seniors ATTENTION CLASS 2012: The class of 2012 is in the process of creating a power point presentation for graduation and would like your help and your guardians help. We are looking for 5 pictures for your graduation of YOU. These pictures can be anytime from birth until present. We are going to present a show for each person in the graduating class. You can submit these in multiple ways. I can take your pictures digitally by e-mail (aakes@bentonhighschool.org), you may send them in the mail or you the senior can bring them by my classroom. Please make sure your name is on any correspondence so that we can tell who you are, especially if it is a picture of you at a younger age. WE need these pictures ASAP so that you are not left out. Stop by Mrs. Akes room if you have any questions.
Summer Internship Juniors and Seniors: The American Cancer Society is offering a $2,000 paid summer internship for a student who is strong in math and science, pursuing a career in science or medicine, has a minimum of GPA of 4.0 in core subjects, is a U.S. citizen and has an outstanding attendance record. The application process consists of the application, a 300 word maximum essay, two letters of recommendation and a transcript. 26-35 students will be selected from across the State of Illinois. The program is eight weeks from mid-June to mid-August, eight hours per week, five days a week. Seniors If you are planning to major in Physical or Occupational Therapy, the Elks is offering a scholarship specifically for those majors. See Mrs. Roper in the guidance office for an application if you are interested. Deadline to apply is March 9, 2012.
Seniors We have just received two $1,000 scholarships from the Franklin Hospital Auxiliary. One scholarship is specifically for nursing and the other is for any health care field. Deadline to apply is March 30, 2012. See Mrs. Roper in the guidance office for applications.

Art Club Art Club meeting today to turn in candy money or to pick up Gas Raffle tickets for those who don't sell candy. If you have turned in your money, you don't need to attend.
Lifeguard Course Rend Lake College is offering the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course March 11th - May 13th on Sundays 12:00-4:50. To enroll in this course you must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course. The cost of this course for students living in RLC's district is $84.50. For more information, stop by the guidance office.
